Justice Department charges more than 2 dozen in California sweep targeting alleged noncitizen voters
The statewide sweep Monday is part of a Trump administration effort to root out noncitizen voting ahead of next month’s midterm elections, even though data shows that the problem is incredibly rare, difficult to prove and has not been shown to change the outcome of races.
Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed clashed with an audience member at a town hall in a now viral interaction.
Abdul El-Sayed is one of this election season’s highest-profile candidates — and perhaps Democrats’ most controversial. He’s trying to win the Senate race in this swing state with unapologetically liberal policies.
Early voting in Texas begins Monday, Oct. 19, and runs through Friday, Oct. 30, ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3. Weekend voting is available, with hours varying by county and day. Statewide races include governor and United States Senate. During early voting, Texans can vote at any designated location in their registered county. Dallas, Collin and Tarrant counties also offer countywide voting centers on Election Day. Denton County voters must use their assigned polling place on Election Day. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is Friday, Oct. 23. Officials must receive applications by that date; a postmark is not enough. On Election Day, polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Voters must present acceptable photo identification if they have it. Those unable to reasonably obtain it may qualify to use other documents. Printed notes, sample ballots and voter guides are allowed, but cellphones and other wireless communication devices are prohibited inside polling places.

Federal officials announce the arrests and criminal complaints as part of “Operation Protect the Vote,” which targets noncitizens living in California who fraudulently registered to vote and then illegally voted in U.
